Fundraiser Update:
The volunteer team is at Rapha Community Center! Our children are having so much fun and we’ve made great progress on projects too. Thankfully we exceeded the original campaign goal of $10,000. This money has made such a big difference. The cow shed is almost complete and the greenhouse will be installed by the end of the week. New uniforms are being made for the primary school children and a lot of painting has been done including a gorgeous mural in the girls’ dormitory.
The remaining funds are being used to offset the increase in food prices. Like many places in the world, Kenya is experiencing inflation. However, there is also an extreme drought in parts of the country which have made things even more difficult. Right now there is a shortage of maize, which is a staple food. Not only is it hard to find, but the price has increased from $35 per 90kg bag to $75. Our community uses 10 bags per week. Overall our food and essential needs budget has almost doubled from $2,500 to $4,500. Hopefully the prices will decrease with time, but for the next few months we are facing a difficult reality.
The team has witnessed the urgent need. They decided to help by increasing their campaign goal to $15,000. The additional money raised will continue to help us provide food to the 131 children in our community. We know times are difficult for many, but if you are in a position to help, please do so by making a donation today. Thank you for your support!
