It happened. Finally. We broke ground on the new boys’ dormitory!
I’ve been picturing this moment for three years. Whenever I’d think about the awful conditions of the current dormitory or feel the weight of the fundraising goal before us, I would close my eyes and see it all. I’d visualize the stages of construction from the first moment we’d sink our shovels into the soil, to the moment the boys would enter their home for the first time.
In the beginning of 2020, I knew this would be the year when this dream would come true. Nothing, not even a pandemic, could stop us.
I always imagined I would be there in person for the ground breaking, surrounded by all of the children and everyone in our community who have been praying for this moment right along with me. While I couldn’t be there physically, I was able to join our team in Kenya via a video call. Thank you technology! The children were absent since our school is still temporarily closed, nevertheless there was joy and excitement from everyone present as they each took a turn shoveling into the soil. Together we blessed the upcoming construction work and expressed our gratitude for how far we have come as a community. Despite all that is going on in the world, we are able to continue the vital work we are doing for the children at Rapha Community Center. We are so grateful!
Unfortunately, schools in Kenya are to remain closed until January 2021, at which time students will repeat their current grade. While we are heartbroken that they will not return home to us until then, we are committed to delivering Caring 4 You Kits throughout the closure. In addition, we plan to make as many improvements to our facilities as possible.
Just imagine how excited they will be when they return to see all of the changes to their home, including a new dormitory for our boys! We can’t wait!
Thank you to everyone who donated to the boys’ dormitory project. Thank you to everyone who has donated Caring 4 You Kits. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the work we are doing, even in such a challenging economic climate. Your contributions make all the difference. We look forward to sharing our progress in the months ahead!
With gratitude,
