I met Steven and Regina for the first time on my recent trip to Kenya. They are siblings who had just joined our community during the prior month. Their father had died and their mother had abandoned them. They are about 4 and 5 years old, but since their birth certificates could not be found, we can’t be sure.

After they were left alone, Regina, who is the older sibling, did her best to take care of her younger brother. They lived like that for an unknown period of time until a neighbor realized what was going on. They were rescued by officials and brought to our community soon after they were found.

The first thing I noticed about these two young children were their smiles. After I learned about their stories, those smiles came to mean even more. They were so excited, and you could tell how happy they were to be surrounded by new brothers and sisters, and also to have a safe place to sleep, food in their little bellies and the chance to attend nursery school.

I was struck by how they fit so perfectly into our family. They belong with us, and will never be left alone again. Steven, Regina and all the children within our community will always have a home and the care they deserve. They are the reason why this work must continue. They are the reason why your support is so important. Your donations throughout the year ensure that we are able to provide everything our children need to thrive. If you are able, please make a donation today.
